Day Three - Perth - Kings Park

It was very warm today so having found Brian again, we set off to have a look at Kings Park and Perth's Botanical Gardens.

I'm not much of one for specific plants - trees are more my thing - but a look at some southern hemisphere fauna can only serve to feed the mind, plus it was very pleasant to look at with great views over Perth and the Swan River. As it was so hot, we took our time and had to drink plenty of water.

One interesting arteface we found on our way around was a 15-inch shell from HMS Queen Elizabeth which was the battleship that took the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet in 1919 at Scarpa Flow. It was on a goodwill tour to Australia in 1925 and left this disarmed shell as a momento of it's visit.

We met quite a few Australians in the park who are very polite but behind the smile you sense a inner sniggering about the cricket. Everybody we have met so far is excited about the cricket.

On our return to the CBD, I couldn't help notice that there are a lot of "suits" around, as you'd expect really but it struck me that everybody wears a similar attire - brown shoes, dark blue trousers and an open neck sky blue or white shirt for the chaps, a similar version of sorts for the women. As we are closeted near the exhibition centre, we see a lot of these people.

We are using a strong factor 50 suncream and after washing this off when the sun goes down, we take afternoon tea and catch up on the cricket buzz before heading out to find Brian again for dinner at the nearby restaurant to him - Ivy & Jacks next door to his hotel which does different food from the burgers which have sustained us so far and airline food from the journey over. It's a relief to eat pasta again!
