Day 24 - South Australia Museum

Another hot day so we determined to find a place that had air-con for the day so how about the free South Australia Museum?

So off we trots however, I made the mistake of not paying attention to where we were going and it ended up a longer walk than it need to be but all added to the considerable step count we had accrued on this trip - I was averaging 15,000 step per day according to my phone app.

The museum itself was most interesting having collections of South Pacific Island artefacts originally gathered in the nineteenth century and the displays kept that way since the 1920/30's. That was good but mainly consisted of spears, shields and boats.

One of the most interesting sections was about Sir Douglas Mawson who was an Australian geologist and Antarctic explorer. Mawson was with Scott and Shackleton in the early Polar expeditions but is most noted for his geological works in the PreCambrian rocks of the Flinders Range.

There are some Aboriginal sections but it strikes me from this that these people haven't really moved on in 4,000 years which is sad. Most of the ones we see are boozed up loners and homeless on the street. Maybe they prefer it that way - a rejection of Western life?

It is very hot today, so after the obligatory trip to Coles (we found one here - huzzah!) we once again decamp to the pool where I can literally cool my heels. However, we are soon disturbed by a bloody loud South African family so it's not as good but still fairly relaxing.

In the evening we once again sought out the Gilbert Street Hotel for food, beer and another band.
